Turnaround time is vital to any transcription business, especially since US hospitals recently began to outsource transcription abroad to leverage a sizable labor pool at lower costs. "That is where technology can help services like NTI remain competitive," as Hudson explains. "When we installed MedRite, our Transcriptionists soon realized significant productivity increases while we were better able to manage our accounts, offer more service and provide a significantly improved, professional product to our clients. We have doubled our Transcriptionist staff over the past 10 years, and we owe much of this growth to our Crescendo systems."

In 2003, Northeast Transcription upgraded to MedRite-XL, building a true Windows-based platform for transcription. "It offers more than what we could ever expect from any other transcription system: from advanced routing and prioritization to management reporting and billing functionality. MedRite-XL allows us to gain complete visibility and control over our activities and the pace at which they expand. The Crescendo technology helped us remain competitive, grow and, more importantly, manage our growth throughout the years without having to put our future in the hands of investors," insists Hudson.

Accuracy

This is the cornerstone of medical transcription. In an industry where medical records are used for improving the quality of healthcare as well as for legal documents and billing, even a small mistake could be fatal. "It is therefore vital that every record meet the highest standards, which is exactly what the Crescendo technology allows us to do with modules such as MedRite-XL Quality Control that systematically tracks transcription errors while allowing Transcriptionists to route difficult jobs to the QC Editor," says Hudson.

Accessibility

On the dictation side, Northeast Transcription provides its customers with dictation servers to avoid costs associated with maintenance and expansions of in-house dictation systems. But in 1999, they decided to replace their old dictation system, which was unable to cope with the company's growth and could not handle certain input devices. "We decided to roll out DigiScribe-XL from Crescendo across our office and client facilities. The new system integrated with all of our clients' input devices and allowed us to achieve a lot more with the routing of voice files. Last but not least, the system allowed us to hire transcriptionists from anywhere, whether inside or outside the calling area - a tremendous benefit for our business," highlights Hudson.
