The Portsdown Group Practice has been established in the Portsmouth area for many years. Always having been proud of its history and heritage of providing top quality care for all patients, the practice has grown considerably since it was established. The practice now operates from four separate surgeries, two in Portsmouth, one in Paulsgrove and the forth in Waterlooville. Serving over 28,300 patients, the practice group now covers most of Portsmouth and the surrounding area.

Margaret Neil, Practice Manager for the four surgeries explains. “Before we met Crescendo, we had already moved from tapes to digital dictation to overcome the well known hassles that come with tape-based dictation (tapes being lost, broken, bad audio quality, etc.). It was also essential that we eliminate the need for secretaries and tapes to move between surgeries for transcription.

As we started to expand the practice and use the aforementioned basic digital solution, it started to become unreliable and the doctors quickly lost confidence in the system and the support that came with it.

In order to rebuild the user’s confidence and expand the business further, we needed a foolproof system that would allow our 16+ doctors to dictate across all four sites while permitting our 4 secretaries to pick up the dictation from any of these locations. We invited Crescendo to give us a demonstration of their system and were very impressed. They have now delivered everything we asked for from a functionality, reliability and support point of view.

The new system has allowed us to monitor the workflow, which has saved time and expense as secretaries can now work from their own base picking up the dictation remotely rather than having to drive to other surgeries. The system is very easy to use which has been a great help as we have a wide range of users, from doctors who have never used digital dictation to some who are not even PC literate and others who are quite confident in finding their way around.

Crescendo’s technical support is excellent; they are always willing to help even when the solution to the problem is quite simple and something that you should have picked up on. We are extremely happy with Crescendo and wish we had opted for their system the first time around. We would recommend it to anyone who wants to move to digital dictation” concludes Margaret.
